The below “Better in Denim” Gap commercial is so super fun!!
I’ve loved the Gap since I was a kid and I still have my first logo hooded sweatshirt! I just couldn’t part with it.
Also, considering I got the sweatshirt in the 1990s (did you just hear my millennial gasp!), I got to witness the peak years of the Gap’s advertisements and commercials that wonderfully merged the effortless cool of the casual end of 1960s and ’70s fashion with the loud presence of ’90s choreography and its ode to nostalgia!
Like, who could forget that one commercial that with the swing music! A vibe!
There were so many great ads from the brand back then and into the 2000s. There was the one with LL Cool J in which he famously wore a FUBU cap. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith. And of course, in 2003 with Madonna and Missy Elliott! And the incredible one with archival footage of Audrey Hepburn from the film Funny Face dancing to AC/DC I believe!
And can we have a moment for the Old Navy commercials for the holidays with Lil’ Kim and Fran Drescher! (And was that Don Cornelius doing the voiceover at the end?!)

For summer 2025, after their previous great adverts with Troye Sivan and Tyla, the Gap acquired the girl group Katseye to star in their latest, alongside a crop of amazing dancers. They’re all dancing to the iconic “Milkshake” by Kelis!!
It’s just fab all around and really uplifted me and seemingly so many others! Brava, Gap. Once again, you’re on the right side of pop history and happiness! This is what we mean by never change. ❤

After becoming aware of the award-winning picture book Fry Bread, for ol’ times sake per usual, I borrowed two other picture books from the library! My Fade is Fresh and A Banquet for Cecilia are just as adorable, beautifully drawn and with proud nods to ancestral heritage and celebrating what makes us and our communities unique!
