Eminem has always openly declared his deep appreciation for Tupac Shakur. He’s referenced him regularly in his music, both before and after the debut of major label debut The Slim Shady LP in 1999. A while ago, the 15 Grammy-award winning artist wrote a personal, handwritten letter to the slain rapper’s mother, and former Black Panther, Afeni Shakur. His letter, accompanied by an illustration he drew, was included in the 2008 book Tupac Remembered, but has recently regained interest thanks to a Reddit user who uploaded screenshots of the tribute, that in its original condition, is currently at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Em’s words read very candid and sincere, and even begins with an apology for what he thinks to be “sloppy” penmanship! Looks pretty clean and aligned to us. And his drawing of ‘pac was impressive!
Read the letter below, as within sentences, he gives Afeni the elation of being a “true Queen. At the bottom of the drawing, he excitedly included: “To: Afeni, your friend-4-ever! -Marshall.”
