The Pisces by Melissa Broder

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve been aware of “The Pisces” since it’s released. And still. Once I finally requested it from the library, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. This book is definitely for both the lovelorn and the hopeless romantic. I mean, there were times I was actually jealous of Lucy, the main character because she was sooooo in love (granted with a merman), in that real euphoric state. I know the feeling all too well. I think a lot of us do, right? (And the eroticism in “The Pisces” is on 11). But naturally, the book has its twists and turns that while written so delicately, were still potent through Melissa Broder’s (the author’s) delivery. If my memory serves me, the book, especially during its first year out, was heralded and polarizing to a lot of readers and I was again very aware of that mid-way through reading. I could kind of see why, although I had no issues. But by the end, how could I not have appreciated what I just experienced? If anything, “The Pisces” helped me understand myself, my hurt, my joys, and my wants a little more even if some truths remain hard to accept. I ended up liking this book a lot, and it was certainly an adventure!
